January 31, 2006
Lisa was diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer on Friday January 27, 2006. Non-small cell lung cancer accounts for about 80 percent of lung cancers. Among them are 4 types of tumors. Lisa has Adenocarcinoma which is found in the mucus glands of the lungs. This is the most common type of lung cancer in women and among people who have not smoked. Lisa has never smoked.
Lisa and Johnny are visiting M.D. Anderson for the first time today. After a battery of tests she will be given advice on how to treat her specific cancer.
I will update the site as we have information. Thank you Lauren Conder for this wonderful suggestion.
Lisa and Johnny have many wonderful friends and we as her family appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers. A special Thank You to our friends at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for their help on Monday! You are a blessing.
Love,
Dee Anne

Lisa,
I am amazed at the emotion I encounter from so many people in the community when they hear the news. But then again, I am not surprised because you are such a loved person. Not just here in the office, but everywhere I go. I have seen so many tears and heard so many genuine thoughts of hope regarding you. Truly, love has the power the heal, and there are sooooo many people here who love you. I know you will make it through all of this. Just remember that you have a huge group of support to pull from. We love you.
Lisa --
So sorry to hear about your problem, but just "hang in there" and make it go away. They have now made so many advances with treatment of lung cancer. Stay in there with M. D. Anderson -- they are the best!
We will be praying for you each night.

Lu,
I am saying my daily prayers to Saint Peregrine. I know the power of prayer will come through for you. While I was searching for this prayer I found the following and wanted to share it with you.
Cancer is Limited.....
It cannot cripple love,
It canot shatter hope,
It cannot corrode faith,
It cannot eat away peace,
It cannot destroy confidence,
It cannot shut out memories,
It cannot silence courage,
It cannot invade the soul,
It cannot reduce eternal life,
It cannot quench the spirit,
It cannot lessen the power of the Resurrection.
I love you,
Eron
Lisa,
I have known and respected you for many years. I don't pretend to understand what you and your family are going through, but life is fully of adversity and none more serious than you are going through today. You have as much determination as anyone I have ever encountered. I challenge you to beat this! I know you will overcome this adversity and learn much about your self and family in the process. I will leave you will one message from Jimmy V "Cancer can take my body, it can take my mind, but it can never take my soul! Don't give up, don't ever give up." Our prayers are with you.
Love,
Donnie
Lu,
I just wanted to let you know that I was thinking about you. I know that everything will turn out great for you. I just always try to remember that everything happens for a reason. Remember just stay positive like you are and smile that big great smile like you do. I will be praying for you.
Lisa,
If there is a Blog for Dummies I need to read it! This is my 3rd attempt to send you a short note, the first attempt was, of course, very eloquent, the second one, not bad, this one, well...all I am trying to say to you is as you know, you have so much love from family and friends that want so much to be there for you and to help in any way possible, LET US!! I will continue to lift you and your families up in my prayers.
Love ya,
Sharon
Hi Lisa,
I was very sorry to hear of your illness. I haven't seen you in about 35 years but I always thought you were such a sweet girl. Eron speaks very highly of you. I am Mary Jane's sister, Caroine. We live in Florida.
Do you remember when we sang "I enjoy being a girl" on stage at Anson Jones junior high? We got off key and it sucked so bad! But it was soooooooo funny.
My husband and I are praying for you and I have asked our priest to include you in Sunday's liturgy.
God Bless you and your family.
This will be beaten!
Caroline and Anthony Stelmach
Lisa - My thoughts and prayers are with you. You are the STRONGEST lady I know and I have no doubt you will beat this and come out stronger than ever. God bless you and your family - I have put you on the GDS prayer list so you are remembered daily in all our prayers.
Love - Paula French
Lisa, I wanted you to know that even though I am now living a few hundred miles away....my prayers are right there with you, Johnny and the rest of your family. I believe in the power of positive thinking and living and you are a perfect example of both. This won't beat you...it's just a particular journey that I wish you didn't have to take, but at least it is one that you won't take alone. Continue to believe and the rest of us who love you will do the same and God will do the rest. You've always been a winner...this time will be no different.
Love to you all,
Karen Williamson Gibson

We all know that your determination and stubborn nature will get you through every day. :-) Stay positive and fight like we all know you can. I know everyone is loving you, missing you, and praying for you every day.--Heather

Although we have met only breifly (Eron Sanders works with me) I do feel you are part of our business group of freinds. We send our prayers to you and your family for your speedy recovery and for God to take you by the hand and give you all the courage you need to fight this.

Lisa,
Just a few words of encouragement. You must stay strong in your faith that God will answer our prayers for a cure for your cancer. I believe that God answers the prayers of those who simply ask through prayer. You may also find some good information on the laf.org web site. (Lance Armstrong foundation). Linda and I will keep track of your progress through this site.

SSSSweet LiSSSSSa...& Hunka Johnnie,
We still need to have that Meet the Fockers party for Winston for approval. So you say the date and I'll arrange it all! More love and powerful prayers than you'll ever know are coming from Austin with a special dose of pixie dust. I love you both dearly... Beth
Lisa - hang in there and know our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Hey Lisa,
Want you and Johnny to know that you and your entire family are on our Prayer List at church.
You are such a special woman.
You have strong men at home,an incredible family ,a community that respects and loves you and a God that can do anything.
Steve
Lisa,
We've never met, but I love your mom and David like crazy which means you get all the prayers I would be sending UP for them and, Lisa, that is a whole bunch!
Sam Smith
Lisa, Doris and I are adding you to our prayer list! I believe God answers prayer in at least 3 ways:
-Direct intervention
-Equipping others (doctors, medical researchers, etc.) to do His work of healing
-Giving you and loved ones the strength and courage to get through the situation

Lisa and Johnny,
Boy a lot sure has happened since seeing you all at Nicola's wedding in December! I am terribly sorry to hear the news of your lung cancer but please know that MD Anderson is the greatest place in the world to be. It is full of warm, loving professionals who have dedicated their lives to save others. We have done many many stories there profiling the patients and the care givers and it is a top notch place for those in need.
Please know that you and your family are all in our prayers and also know that I live close to the med center and you can call on me anytime for anything.
Grace and peace to you all,
Lanny Griffith

ps. shout out to those who created this blog.
Lisa, Ronnie and I have had you on prayer lists at church, with friends, you name it, & you are totally bathed in prayer, so, we're not too surprised at the good news of this being contained in the lung. You are in the best hands and have a lot of support from your family and friends. We'll continue to pray for you as you go through the treatments and recovery. Just lean on Him for strength. Your faith will see you through this. Much Love, the Anderson's - Ronnie & Barbara
Lisa,
Ric and Jeannine just told me about your illness, and Jerry Williford and Jerry Paine sent me this link. I'm so sorry that you have to face this struggle, but from all the comments, it's clear that you have wonderful family members and friends who will be there every step of the way.
Since we first started our careers together - these many years ago- you have had a special place in my heart. You were my colleague, comrade, and yes- drinking buddy- in those early days of adjusting to public accounting. You are a gentle, kind and tough person who will beat this illness. Our prayers are with you.

Lisa:
I told Johnny the other day I've added you to my church's prayer list. I want you both to walk in faith knowing that God has His hands around your situation and He is in control. Start thanking Jesus for your complete healing (it's on the way) and KNOW that you KNOW that you KNOW it will be done! If you start feeling down (physically or mentally), remember it's just the devil trying to discourage you. Tell the devil to get away from you, b/c he is not welcome. You are a Child of God and you belong to Him and He will never let you down. My family, church & friends will continue to cover you in prayer !!
Love & Blessings,
Charla Malek
Lisa,
Just heard about your diagnosis. Please accept my hope and encouragement as you embark on your path to victory and to renewed health.
You have given me such good advice over the few years we have known each other. We need you so get well soon.
Cancer can be defeated and you can do it. Get mad, get focused, and do whatever it takes. But most of all, remember to laugh every day. To that purpose - have you seen the newest pirate movie that was recently nominated for an Academy Award? You will love it - it is rated "Rrrrrrrr."
Get well soon,
